Music has been an obsession of mine for as long as I can remember.

At 6 I would religiously watch MTV and dance around my living room mimicking Madonna and Michael Jackson. I can still remember most of my moves to Like a Virgin.
At 8 it was a ritual to ride my bike in circles around my purple boombox while listening to Elvis at my Grandparent’s farm. I would tape a pencil to the boombox to fix eaten cassettes. (It’s important to be prepared out in the wild.)
At 10 I insisted on learning George Michael’s ‘Faith’ on piano despite not being able to read music, and so I did that.

I joined a drill team at 12 who had this great routine to Men Without Hats ‘Pop Goes the World’. I was the real Sparkle Motion, bitches.

At 14 I would sit and listen to Sonic Youth, REM, Nirvana and The Stooges on my discman and dream about being a rock star. If you’ve never been to Missouri, it’s a great place to stargaze. My hometown in particular can also provide you with 1 million reasons to leave. Thank you, Saint Joseph Missouri for the motivation.
At 17 I bought a bass and started a band with a boy that I’m still in a band with at 34. We moved to Portland, Oregon because we heard it was a nice place to be in a band. 11 years later, that is still true.

These days I tour a lot with my band, spend my rainy days recounting lyrics to describe my emotional state, and DJ on a regular basis. All things musical. I have decided to start a podcast playing and talking about my favorite music. I know someone out there has to feel the same. Enjoy my melomania.
